1:1Preschool Piano Lessons 

 We specialise in 1:1 Piano Lessons for  Preschoolers under the 'Wunderkeys' program.  These start from the Age of 3!!

     How Does it Work?

         Philosophy

• ​This is a first introduction to one-to-one Piano lessons for young children.  There are many concepts they need to grasp before jumping into "traditional" piano pieces.
• Wunderkeys encourages exploration of the piano in ways that are accessible and appropriate for this age group.
• All lessons are geared towards having young children understand everything they need to know before learning to read notated music.

         The Books

• The three Wunderkeys method books are full-colour, story-based books filled with lovable characters and imaginative adventures.
• Each lesson follows a routine which includes a Rhythm Rhyme poem, exploration activities, a teacher/student duet, a math page to improve numerical understanding and a "cut-and-play" piano game.

Is your child ready for Piano Lessons?

Readiness for Piano Lessons can very widely among 3-5 year olds.  Consider the following when assessing whether your child is ready to begin.

If you find you are answering "no" or "not quite" to many of these questions, it is suggested that you wait a few months before you begin.

         Interest

• Does your child show interest in the Piano?
• Does he/she like listening and moving to music?
• Is he/she excited about the prospect of Piano Lessons?
• Does your child know the difference between "banging" on the piano keys vs playing carefully?

         Communication

• Does your child respond well to questions asked by adults other than his/her parents?
• Does your child sit and listen to stories with interest?
• Is your child easily bought back to task when needed?
• Can your child speak clearly and make himself/herself understood in most situations?

          Co Ordination

• Can your child wiggle only his/her thumbs or only his/her index fingers when asked?
• Can your child hold a pencil or crayon?
• Can your child follow two-part directions when asked? (For example, "use your right hand to pick up the glass and then take it to the table.)
• Can your child focus on a single task for 5 minute intervals?

         Home

• Do you have a piano or an adequate keyboard at home (or do you have plans to obtain one?) At home a instrument will be needed.
• Do you have the time to sit with your child regularly to assist with home piano time? Preschool piano students need their parents to help them at home every day.
• Do you have the ability to bring your child to lessons regularly?  Consistency is important to your childs success.

About Our Lessons

• ​Our consistent weekly structure has been carefully crafted to ensure all skills are nurtured, and that the order of activities is appropriate for our littlest learners!
• We start with a hello song and warm-up songs that relate to the topic of the lesson.
• After a circle-time chat about the topic, we listen to a piano piece that illustrates the different elements of our topic (for example in Autumn Walk our piano piece takes us through the wood and shows us the falling leaves, the berries and the different animals).
• We then have an activity that develops finger dexterity and muscle tone, such as working with manipulatives or using gator grabbers to pick up small items and place them on a theme-based image.
• We work with pitched percussion instruments in two ways: either for echo songs (where we also tap colour circles and sing), and to match patterns and play melodies from those patterns.
• There are many opportunities for rhythm and pulse development through listening and movement activities.
• There are many opportunities for improvisation on the piano, aiming to achieve different effects such as snow falling or rainbow shapes.
• We end the lesson with a calm song where we have carefully selected listening extracts that relate to the theme of the lesson.
